Love Notes to New York
Love Notes to New York is a ‘paper graffiti’ project that engages with the nostalgic, romanticised idea of New York City, and the ongoing love affair that I have with this great fantasy machine.
I continue to distribute these Love Notes in my travels around New York City over time, photographing the sites where I leave them. The project serves as both a visual map and an engagement with place, and is also a way of sharing some joy. Perhaps the Love Notes may be admired or bring a smile to a passer-by; or they may possibly be collected, kept or shared, lost or left unfound to decay…
This project was launched at the SVA Summer Residency Program Open Studio event on August 4th 2011, where the audience was invited to take a Love Note from a temporary installation, and if they were willing, i photographed them [person as site] and inserted their polaroid photograph into the installation.
The project is ongoing to date.
