LABOUR
Labour is a process-based project that centres on the artistic labour of weaving around my own body. It is an investigation into the use of the body
to make/perform artworks and encompasses ideas relating to endurance, duration, time, effort, labour and embodiment.
Process is the starting point, and the basis for my inquiry.
I will use and recycle collected materials from my everyday life and studio.
I will weave around my body.
I will document the process with video.
I will take however long it takes.
A process of ‘doing’ almost for its own sake, my endurance through this repetitive physical labour also makes reference to everyday menial labours and the labour of childbirth, childcare and the associated domestic labours of motherhood. Labour explores the relationship and dialogue between process and outcomes, and as with these other kinds of labour (or work that is never done), the weaving process is ongoing, and to date culminates in one woven object, 152 hours of unedited video documentation and a (continuing) cognitive experience, archived into my body.
